Dashboard Panel Editing

This update improves how you edit panels on a dashboard.

Text panels let you write explanations between charts, panel size can be fitted to its content automatically, and the panel you are editing is visible right on screen.

Why we made this

A dashboard does not read well just because the charts are gathered in one place. If you have to explain separately how things were grouped and where to look first, you end up creating another document, and adjusting panel sizes one by one pulls time into layout work.

This update closes that gap so composition and explanation finish within the dashboard itself.

Text panels

Write explanations directly between charts.

• Explanations in place: Place text panels on the same grid as charts and arrange them freely.
• Borders only while editing: They read cleanly without borders, and the boundary appears only while editing.
• View-only rendering: People with view access see only the readable form.

Now you can note a quarterly target or record how a metric should be read, keeping numbers and context on one screen.

Sizing and selection

How panel size and editing position are handled has been reorganized.

• Fit to content: Fit a panel's size to the table or chart inside it automatically.
• Manual adjustment wins: Resizing a panel by hand releases the automatic fit, and you are told that it did.
• Selection highlight: The panel you just added or selected is highlighted, and the view moves to a new panel when one is added.

Now you never lose track of which panel you are editing, even while working across several of them.

You can try it right away from the Deskroom sidebar > Analytics, on any dashboard. Spend the time you used to spend arranging screens and writing separate explanations on making decisions from your data.
